In case you needed an excuse to treat yourself to a massage?
It's that time of the week again and for today's #InstaHealthMondays post, we've decided to chat about massage. I'm sure we could all do with some TLC during the silly season. Besides the obvious calming effect and stress release that we feel after a long, deep tissue massage, regular massage has the following health benefits:
1- Reduced chance of injuries by improving range of motion and muscle flexibility.
2- Enhanced muscle performance and power output.
3- Shorter recovery time before workouts.
4- Increased circulation/blood flow to the muscles, therefor increased supply of nutrients and removal of waste and lactic acid from the muscle cells.
Anyone who routinely pushes their physical limits through movement, strength training and aerobics can benefit from massage. Muscles that have been over-exerted can lose their capacity to relax, resulting in chronic tightness (hypertonicty), which can in turn result in compensatory imbalances in the body. This can lead to strains, sprains and muscle tears.
Massage can compliment treatment received from other health care professionals, such as Chiropractors by optimizing the healing process and reducing discomfort during the rehabilitative stage. With regular massage, one can identify 'trouble-areas' and, if necessary, collaborate with a Chiropractor to restore balance to the body.If you are serious about you health, sport and general wellbeing consider implicating massage as a part of your fitness routine 🙂
